My child is nervous about singing in front of others.
Your child has never sung before? Perfect! AYC is always learning together. We strive to create a supportive experience for our choristers. Some children find that they are actually more comfortable singing in a group setting. Choristers have the opportunity to participate in special events, and may even try out for solos, but this is never required. New students are encouraged to attend a rehearsal or two before committing to the choir.
Is this a religious choir?
The Alaska Youth Choir is an inclusive, safe space. We treat others with respect, and we expect the same from our choristers, regardless of religious beliefs. Our Board of Directors and Interim Music Director are openly Christian, and many of the songs we introduce will likely include songs of faith. However, we do not want anyone to feel unwelcome or judged due to spiritual beliefs. All are welcome.
